THE FRUIT OF A DECADE IN RWANDA
Ten years ago, World Witness officially visited Rwanda for the first time. The Lord led us there through Benjamin Musuhukye, a Rwandan graduate of Erskine College whom Dr. Randy Ruble had been instrumental in mentoring. Of all the continents, Africa may play the greatest role in
shaping global Christianity over the next 50 years. As we considered how the ARP Church might faithfully contribute to shaping Christianity on this great continent, we discovered that, like much of Christianity in Africa, the greatest need was theological training and discipleship. Now, 10 years later, we are beginning to see the fruit the Lord has borne through the work of SEED Ministry.
As many of you know, a few years ago, Rwanda imposed new educational requirements for pastors, along with new building codes for church facilities. In response, World Witness’s SEED Ministry, in collaboration with Erskine Seminary, launched a diploma program designed to meet
this need. To date, 72 Rwandan pastors have graduated from the program with a Scripture-centered, confessionally Reformed, and globally minded education shaped by a redemptive-historical and Christ-centered framework. And they are passing that training on to others!
During our recent visit, we met with the pastor of a church facility that World Witness had helped bring into compliance with the new building code requirements. He expressed deep gratitude for the assistance and shared that his church is now hosting five other congregations. He has also been using his theological training to equip other church leaders and community members around him.
In a nation alive with explosive Christian growth—yet deeply vulnerable to the prosperity gospel and other false Western influences—African pastors trained through SEED Ministry are boldly spreading the truths of the Reformed faith from one church to the next.
How do you shape the future of Africa? By shaping those who shape the future.
