Jubilee Birthday

What is Jubilee Birthday?

The Jubilee Birthday Fund was begun by the ARP Women’s Synodical Union in 1925. It was established to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the sending out of the first ARP missionary, Miss Mary Galloway, in 1875. The word Jubilee came from Leviticus 25:11: “The fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you.”

ARP Women’s Ministries encourages giving to the Jubilee Birthday Fund by coordinating an event in their church anytime during the year. It may take place during a church-wide missions emphasis or at a gathering of the women of the church. Often an ARP missionary is invited to speak. It could be one of the Jubilee Birthday Ladies or another missionary. Customarily, this is preceded or followed by a reception, luncheon, or dinner. Sometimes a birthday theme is carried out and cake is served. For an imaginative container, an empty box can be gift-wrapped to receive the offering. If done church-wide, it is particularly appealing to children to meet a missionary. Maps, bulletin boards and display tables can be used to tell of the ministries of ARP missionaries.

The Jubilee Birthday Ladies uniquely represent the women of the ARP Church in taking the gospel message to the world. Your prayer and financial support for them is very encouraging.

Shelia Osborne

Shelia and her husband, Jeff, were commissioned as missionaries with World Witness in 2001 for service in Mexico. Their ministry together included leading discipleship courses for adult couples, training children’s workers, organizing Bible Clubs and hosting Short-Term Mission Groups. In addition, Shelia taught Sunday School, led a women’s Bible study, and taught English.

In 2009, they returned to the United States. As a supported missionary based in the World Witness home office, Shelia serves as Short-Term Ministry Coordinator and Liaison to ARP Women’s Ministries. She became an ARP Women’s Ministries Jubilee Birthday Lady in 2013.
The Osbornes are members of Covenant ARP Church in Statesville, NC. Prior to their service in Mexico, they were active with the Christian Motorcyclists Association, a volunteer evangelistic outreach ministry. They adopted their only daughter, Sarahi (Sarah) in Mexico.

Rebekah Carson

Rebekah Carson joined World Witness in 2004 and began working with a church-planting team at the Family Center in former East Berlin, Germany. In 2012, she moved to Altglienicke, in the southeast of Berlin, to work with a new church-planting team. She is helping them establish a children’s ministry, as well as working with national Christians in outreach and discipleship.

In 2000, Rebekah earned her B.A. in History and Christian Education from Erskine College. Prior to her commitment to World Witness, she served as Director of Christian Education at First Lancaster ARP Church. She was selected by ARP Women’s Ministries as Jubilee Birthday Lady
in 2015.
