Frequently Asked Questions

Dallas Trip Information
When?
June 28-July 4, 2020

What Will We Do?
We will be caring for refugee kids whose families have been resettled in the United States and are living in Dallas, Texas. We will be serving with a group called For the Nations: Refugee Outreach (ftnro.org)

Who Can Serve?

This trip is for college-aged and young adults (ages 18+) from the US and Canada. Our limit is 12, including leaders.

Our Mission

Our goal is to glorify God in serving refugee men, women and children. As we learn from God’s Word, refugee-ministry leaders, and refugees themselves, we will come away with increased compassion, knowledge, and direction for serving refugees and immigrants around us.

Our Ministry
The team will be assisting For the Nations with their summer programs for refugee children. We will be involved in a variety of activities each day, including VBS-style day camp, helping with English, literacy, reading and swimming lessons.

How Much Will It Cost?

The cost is $550 per person, which includes registration fee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, rental vehicles for ground transportation, t-shirt, background check, learning fees (refugee speaker, e.g.) etc. Each person is responsible for transportation to Dallas.

Dearborn/Hamtramck
When?
July 14 - July 20, 2020

Our Purpose
The purpose of this mission trip is to introduce team members to ministry among Muslims. Because the trip is designed to be an introduction for those with very limited to no past experience with Muslims, priority for inclusion on the team will be given to first-time applicants.
Our Approach
Our approach consists of spending four full days in Dearborn, MI, and one day in Hamtramck.  Dearborn is the U.S. city with the largest concentration of Arab Americans and Arab immigrants, and Hamtramck is the first and only Muslim majority city in the United States.

Our Plan

While in the Dearborn and Hamtramck areas our plan is to:

Invest our time in practical training by meeting Muslim people face to face through prayer walks and literature distribution in Muslim neighborhoods, both which can lead to opportunities for conversation, and through befriending Muslim children and families in area city parks. Pray for Muslim people and people groups. Visit mosques as a way to meet Muslims and learn about their faith. Gain exposure to various different Muslim cultures. Experience the cultural foods of various people groups. Hear testimonies and life experiences of Christian workers laboring among Muslims. Learn about various ministry organizations and approaches to ministry among Muslims in the Dearborn and Hamtramck areas. Have our own faith challenged and begin to think creatively about ministry among Muslim people in our own home areas.

Our Prayer

By the end of this trip, we pray team members will have recognized and embraced ways God can use them and their churches, among Muslims. We have seen team members grow in their vision, identify and overcome cultural barriers, and move into meaningful outreach.

How Much Will It Cost?

Approximately $500 per person (does not include transportation to Dearborn)

The trip cost includes:

Hotel or Airbnb accommodations - July 14 check-in and July 20 check-out.

Most meals: Breakfast may be included with the hotel stay. Lunch and dinners are self-prepared in the hotel or provided by locals with whom we are doing ministry, and usually one meal out.

Literature: A contribution toward literature for literature distribution.

Permits: A contribution toward park permits for our outdoor ministry in area parks.
